Between ten and 15 years ago I called PBS to request they replay the Earl Scruggs Revue on Austin City Limits, or at least let me know where I could buy a tape of this incredible performance. I was informed they could not re-air the show because their "rights" had run out. Video tapes were not available for the same reason.
Now, years later with internet technology at our fingertips, I check the PBS website only to find the same results.
I never understood how the show could be available on Album, but not on video tape. (I have the album)
So ... who owns "the rights" to this show? Why would they not allow us the pleasure of revisiting this historical moment again, and again -- especially if their is money-in-it for them?
Not sure about you, but The ESR was the most entertaining band i EVER saw live -- i saw them over a dozen times! Listening to their albums is great, but actually SEEING them perform these songs was something very, very special. And the Austin show captured them at their best!
IF ENOUGH OF US REQUEST it, maybe the Scruggs camp and PBS will get together and, once again, share this wonderful event with the fans.
Perhaps an "E-mail Petition" is needed.
What do you think Mr. McLachlan?
