Hi,
G# is a pretty good note to tune the head to. Tap the head near the edge with your hand over the strings and listen for the note, then fret the 1st string at the 6th fret and match the head to that note. The fretted note is a G#. It's all in the sound your looking for. Be careful not to get the head to tight or it will lose tone ,sound and volume. I hope this helps a little bit and did'nt confuse you more.
