my dad was playing a banjo ever since 1910 he died in 1983 if earl scruggs would mention him it would back up a lot of sayings about bluegrass all bluegrass came from all around cliffside ,to all them little valley around there you dont just become bluegrass it is something you are born with and earl had it, my dad had it all the martins the housers the cobbs all related my dad was donnie ruppe of cliffside nc and he was the one that started it there and earl left there and went on to a famous career dad was too set in his ways to go out like earl did he stayed with his kids and wife and worked cotton mills most of his life there he still played at square dances every saturday night in cliffside we all had a good time. I knew when earl came to our house when i was little we always had a big eating and they would play until they couldnt play no more that night it was like a holiday that came unexpected .
