Don't know what was the first, but his best, and the one that highlighted his skills most, was "Molly and Tenbrooks," also on the "Essentials" set. Anyone agree? I also have the Newport Festival set, where Monroe appeared, played "Molly and Tenbrooks" and actually spoke of Earl Scruggs playing it with him back in the 40's. Thought that was interesting. Please remember that Monroe did not feature Earl a great deal when he played with him. Had Earl not separated himself from Monroe, he would have always just been known as another Blue Grass boy, and one not featured very much.
