I have found out some important information on what gauge string Earl is now using. He is playing Gibson Earl Scruggs Medium strings/SBG-ESM and not light gauge. I like these strings. They have excellent tone. There gauges are (first to fifth): 10, 12, 14, 22-nickel wound, 10.
Earl's banjo of course is made of curly maple. Listen to him play Lonesome Rueben in D tuning with medium stings. The tone that come from his banjo are powerful. Thanks Louise.
