Hi! Chris, I, live in Canada & just purchased a Gol Tone CC100R Cripple Creek Bluegrass 5 String Banjo last Oct./02 The Sales guy in music store, told me the story about Gold Tone, that`s how I, found out about, quite suddenly when I was in buying a Ovation Celebrity Elect/Accoustic guitar ther one day. An, Excellent Entry level or even better for learning & sticking with for quite long time or more. The Sound is Fantastic like Banjos` priced a lot, lot Higher to.good Clarity and tone both Tenor wise & bass & midranges.I,m very Happy with my Gold Tone, "It, Looks and feels like I,m playing a Banjo Costing more like around the $1000.00s` at least.
They are a Smaller Company Specializing in Banjos` mainly & a few other Accoustic Instrmts.
They say they wanted to build a Good Quality Banjo for under $500. and I, truly Believe it to!
Look up on the Web at http://www.goldtone.com/
Has Great features Hardwood Maple neck, maple body, double rod neck, pearl snowflake neck inlays, brass tone ring and many more.
I, paid $495. before taxes for mine In the U.S.A.it goes for around $399
You can get Earls` book Earl Scruggs` and The 5 String Banjo & Instructional cassete as well.I, bought it and it`s a very good book with TAB,and everything concerning the Banjo & tape to.It`s on Earls` website, for $18. softcover & tape cassete $9.95 hardcover at $23.
In, Canada, at a Long & McQuades Music Store, I had to pay $48.95 & $3.33 for 7% tax Total of $52.28, though Very Worth It!The Tape of course, was at $14.95 plus tax as well.
It even has a section on building a Banjo with some Plans to. very complete.though, I,m not building one.Maybe. one day, some day we can get a nice 5 string, just like one of Earls` models!
It`s Nice to Dream Eh?
Take Care! Ken
