Hey, Hoedown-- From one fan to another let me say that maybe the word "declined" would be a bit less loaded than the word "refused." Knowing Earl I suppose "politely declined" would be in order.
As for mention of Flatt & Scruggs, I've heard and read quite a few interviews with Earl the last couple of years in which Earl graciously answered questions about the F&S years. All of his remarks were up-beat and positive. Sometimes it is Earl himself who brings up the subject of F&S and it's always fun for me to "listen in" to those memories that will be repeated for future generations.
