Howdy Earl from down here in Georgia. Well let me tell you a story. Kinda sad really but I am very determined. In 1999, I took off for a week and a half up to Flint Hill,N.C. I Stayed in Shelby,N.C. while i was there and i stopped in at the Shelby Chamber of Commerce one day looking for some directions. WEll i asked the nice lady there where Earl Scruggs lived. Well to my amazement, she said "oh yeah he lives right down the road here" I nearly hit the floor. Well anyway, she gave me the phone # to your brother Horace's house and directions so the next day I was there. He is the absolute nicest man on the face of the earth. He invited me in for some lunch and then he and i did some picking together and he and i just had a wonderful wonderful time together. And of course he and I talked about you mostly. I even had him signed the inside of my resonator. Atleast i was a little closer to my goal. Then in the year 2000 I headed up to Madison,Tenn. Well i thought i would be just as easy to meet you there as it was meeting your brother. You know, go to the local Chamber of Commerce and ask where you lived.WRONG!!!! I went to the Madison Commerce bldg. and they had no idea who you were.=( But to my behalf, there was a lady there that over heard my converstation and said "Earls my friend. Give me your number and i will have him call you" YEe Haw. I was really tickled at that. So then she told me you had moved from Madison to Franklin,Tenn. and of course I was headed down to Franklin then. Well i stopped in like a million places there, post offices and fire stations and polices stations and the chamber of commerce and to my evail, no one in that whole city ever heard of you or even knew where you lived. So that trip was a total disappointment to me.=( THen i found a tour that went by your house but it was saturday by this time and they werent giving the tour then. So I just walked around Nashville like a lost puppy all sad that i didnt get to meet my hero. But i havent given up. All i want is to get my picture taken with you and talk some and do a little pickin' and getcha to sign my banjo. I didnt think that was too much to ask. But my dream hasn't,yet, happend. And unfortunatetly I cant make it up to MerleFest this year because I am a firefighter and its mandatory for me to work that weekend. But i havent given up yet. I am going to have the pleasure to meet you one day. I hope. Well thank you for your time.So pick away on the ole banjo and keep that guitar strummin'.Put more water in the soup cuz' better times acomin'. Have a wonderful blessed day Earl. And take care of yourself.
