Lyle-

The Remo Weather King head is what comes
standard on all new Earl Scruggs and all
new Gibson banjos. It is of course an 11 inch high
crown head. The five-star no doubt was put on by
someone else. It has a heavier frosting on it
than a Remo and is a medium crown head. By theory it
should have a bassier sound than the lighter frosted
Remo. I have and use both type heads on my banjos
depending on what I feel sounds the best for that
instrument. Try loosening the head if it is too
tight. A heavier bridge or medium gauge strings will
also give you more of that bottom end sound.
