A couple of months ago, I made available on the web transcriptions of a number of Earl's guitar breaks in a medley. I received a large number of emails and requests for more. In the meantime, my banjo playing buddy, Jack Baker suggested that I arrange some of the longtime transcriptions into another guitar medley. So I did:

The medley has the lead plus a backup guitar part. Wherever possible, I transcribed Earl's backup part, so the medley is pretty much Earl with Earl accompanying himself. He always has some tasty bass runs and it's as much fun to transcribe his backup playing as his lead. The tunes and their order are:

1. The False Hearted Lover from the Songs of the Famous Carter Family
2. The Cannonball Blues ( a version that Earl played a couple of years after the Vanderbilt recording)
3. Georgia Buck
4. The Little Rosewood Casket (with additional background licks from Earl's playing with Tom T. Hall's A Lover's Farewell)

The last three have stand alone versions elsewhere on the web.

Upon going to the website, select MUSIC, then BANJO. Note that you can also find the first medley I did of Earl's guitar music there, also.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did transcribing. I can't listen to these tunes with dry eyes.

Best regards and happy holidays to all,
Mike
